VIZIANAGARAM: Minister for Housing Botsa Satyanarayana has said that the Government is toying with the idea to attach the 150-year-old Maharajah Government Sanskrit College here to the proposed Vedic University in Tirupati. The Minister was speaking after inaugurating Sri Vedavyasa Sadanam on the college premises on Saturday. Interacting with the college in-charge Principal P. Swapna Hyandavi, former principals Manapragada SeshaSai and Vedula Govinda Sarma and students, the Minister while conceding that patronage for Sanskrit is on the wane due to lack of job opportunities felt that affiliation to the proposed Vedic University of TTD would to some extent solve the problem. The former faculty members, however, appealed to the Minister to save identity of the college instead of affiliating it to any other institution. They complained that students who completed B.A (Oriental languages) from the institute were not getting preference over B.A (Special Telugu) students in the Language Pundits selection. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
