Rain batters Andhra, Rayalaseema

HYDERABAD: Rains battered coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema for the third day on Monday as the surface trough as well as an upper air trough continue over the State.

Life in Ongole town was disrupted with many low-lying areas coming under inundation. The town accounted for the State’s highest rainfall for the day at 9 cm. Hyderabad city underwent the ordeal of traffic snarls at several localities on Monday morning following rain. Reports received by the Disaster Management Department from districts suggested that rains caused extensive damage to the crops in the State.

A forecast issued by the State Met Office here said the rains would continue on Tuesday too. It said there would be isolated heavy falls in Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema.

During the 24-hour period ending 8.30 am Monday, Bapatla, Machilipatnam, Avanigadda and Kanekal received 6 cm each.

Day temperatures in the State rose slightly. The highest night temperature for the period was recorded by Khammam at 15 Degrees C.
