Thiruvananthapuram dominates

KOCHI: Parvathy Vijayan played a stellar role as Thiruvananthapuram defeated Kollam 2-1 and won the women’s title in the K.C.M. Mather Trophy Kerala State team tennis championship at the floodlit Regional Sports Centre courts here on Monday evening.

Thiruvananthapuram also swept the under-18 and under-16 boys titles, defeating Thrissur and Ernakulam respectively, while Palakkad lifted the under-16 girls trophy.

Since the day had a packed schedule, many of the finals were played under the mini set and super tiebreak rules.

The results:

Under-18 boys final: Thiruvananthapuram bt Thrissur 2-0 (G. Anand bt Anand Nandakumar 7-5, 6-1; Pritish Kishore bt Alex Sojan 6-3, 6-4). Semifinals: Thiruvananthapuram tb Ernakulam 2-0; Thrissur bt Palakkad 2-0.

Under-16 boys final: Thiruvananthapuram bt Ernakulam 2-0 (H.Suraj bt Sachin Antony 4-3, 4-2; Mohammed Hamraz bt Vikram Ramesh 4-2, 4-2). Semifinals: Ernakulam bt Thrissur 2-0; Thiruvananthapuram bt Palakkad 2-0.

Men’s semifinals: Ernakulam bt Palakkad 2-0; Thiruvananthapuram bt Pathanamthitta 2-0.

Women’s final: Thiruvananthapuram bt Kollam 2-1 (Parvathy Vijayan bt Nisha Nair 4-2, 3-4, 10-5; Sneha Susan lost to Neha S. Nair 1-4, 0-4; Parvathy/Sneha bt Nisha/Neha 4-3, 1-4, 10-8).

Under-16 girls final: Palakkad bt Thrissur 2-0 (Machat Jeetha Menon bt Sukanya Venugopal; T.S.Sarika bt Sanjana Rajaram). — Principal Correspondent
