Graceful steps: Students performing a dance ballet at an annual day function in a city school. HYDERABAD: It was time for annual and sports day celebrations for city schools last week. St. Mary High School, New Nallakunta, celebrated its sports and cultural festival recently at MCH Grounds, Amberpet. More than 1,500 students participated in different cultural programmes with environment awareness as the main theme. The students of pre-primary section cheered the audience in hued animal dresses while students of Class I to V performed different drill displays flag drill, kite drill by showing the significance of tradition. Students of Class VI to IX presented bouquet drill with flag coloured bouquets, giving a patriotic touch to the drill. The Sth std. students enthralled the gathering with colourful cultural programmes. Minister for IT and Sports R. Damodar Reddy, Himayatnagar MLA G.Kishan Reddy were the special invitees. Shantiniketan VidyalayaSri Tridandi Chinna Srimannarayana Ramanuja Jeeyar Swamiji who was the chief guest at annual day celebrations of Shantiniketan Vidyalaya, Residential school, Shamirpet, blessed the school toppers of AISSE 2007 and presented them awards and gold medals. Addressing the students, he said rising violent incidents in different parts of the country and depiction of violence in the name of entertainment created confusion among students about the values taught at school and home and what they are exposed to in society.Later, the students presented a dance ballet ‘Krishna Leela’ and other cultural programmes. There were skits with students lamenting about child labour, bomb blasts killing of innocent people, foundation courses replacing children’s play time and felling of trees that would ultimately drive away birds and bees from the surroundings. The audience went home not only entertained but also with a lot to think about. Oxford Grammar SchoolOxford Grammar School celebrated its 27th annual day on Sunday at Hari Hari Kala Bhavan. GHMC Commissioner C.V.S.K. Sharma, who was the chief guest, complimented the students for their talent and appreciated the management for its efforts to promote value-based education. The Chairman of OGS M.Vedakumar urged the parents to encourage students to choose a subject of their choice and give them freedom to pursue it. Later the guests gave away awards and prizes to meritorious students followed by a colourful cultural programme. Jubilee Hills Public SchoolJubilee Hills Public School celebrated the 59th Republic Day paying tributes to freedom fighters and rendering patriotic songs and performed to the song of ‘Mile sur Mera Tumhara’ highlighting the dignity of labour and unity in diversity. The president of Jubilee Hills Education Society K.Satyanarayana hoisted the flag. The students also formed a human chain and took an oath to serve society sincerely through their professions. Slate-the-SchoolThe students of Slate-the-School, Ameerpet, presented an impressive cultural programme at the Shilparamam Amphi theatre to celebrate their third annual day.
