Bangalore: The judgment is not in our favour, said G.R. Shanmukhappa, president, Lorry Owners’ Association. “We will go in for an appeal. We oppose the decision, as we think it is not fair to have speed governors fitted only to vehicles in the State. Such a rule should be uniformly imposed all over the country. We will meet with lorry owners’ associations from other southern States this week and announce an indefinite bandh.” According to K.S. Tantri, president, Tourist Taxi Owners’ Association, “The pros and cons of imposing such a rule have not been studied. It is impractical to have speed governors fitted to tourist cars. People will then begin to use privately owned vehicles, and we will lose our business. We will appeal against the judgment. “The Government should form a committee, which should consider the opinion of the stakeholders and vehicle manufacturing companies.” © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
