Medaram set for fair

MEDARAM (WARANGAL DT.): The otherwise sleepy and remote Medaram village has turned out as a mini town abuzz with activity with scores of traders turning up setting their shops all over. The employees of various government agencies were busy making last minute arrangements on Tuesday.

The electricity department personnel were seen erecting transformers and street lights while R&B engineers were overseeing ongoing civil works that are yet to be completed.

Collector K. Damayanthi and Joint Collector K. Srinivasa Rao accompanied by a group of officials went round the village inspecting the cause ways, widening of roads, bathing ghats and the finishing touches being made at the altar which the deities adore during the jatara days.

Hundreds of petty traders who have come from different places were busy erecting tents and putting up their shops on either side of roads leading to the altar. Private circus companies too came up with their equipment to make a fast buck.

Though the Collector claims to ensure completion of all works by February 15, going by the pace, many works appear to take much longer time. “The day long rain on Sunday hampered the work and hence the delay,” the Collector said.

The chairman of Sammakka Sarakka Jatara, Rega Narsaiah said the deity Sarakka would be brought on February 20 evening and Sammakka on February 21 evening. On the February 23, both the deities would return to the forest.

The February 22 was an important day of the jatara when both the deities would adore the altar and it was the time lakhs of devotees wait for. He said 60 to 80 lakh people are expected to attend the jatara, the biggest tribal fair of the country.
