Saurabh stars for Indian colts

CHENNAI: An unbeaten 98 from Saurabh Tiwary ensured India’s final preparation for the under-19 cricket World Cup was successful as the youngsters defeated England by six wickets in a warm-up game in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

Chasing England’s total of 219 for eight, India, coached by Dav Whatmore, lost its first three wickets for just seven runs. But a 134-run partnership between Tiwary and Tanmay Srivastava calmed India’s nerves.

Earlier, England’s Dan Redfern and Ben Brown shared a 113-run partnership for the sixth wicket after a shaky start. Captain Virat Kohli (two for 40) and all-rounder Srivastava (two for 36) kept England in check.

The scores: England 219 for eight in 50 overs (Dan Redfern 74, Ben Brown 40) lost to India 225 for four in 42.4 overs (Saurabh Tiwary 98 n.o., Tanmay Srivastava 57, Manish Pandey 42 n.o.)
