CHENNAI: Actor Madavan is the brand ambassador of the Round Table India’s ‘Freedom through Education’ project that aims to educate one million children across the nation. Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Round Table India’s (RTI) national president Ajay Handa said the body launched the project in 1998 aiming to provide basic infrastructure for primary education in rural areas across the country. About six lakh underprivileged children have benefited so far from the project that has also facilitated construction of over 1,000 schools worth Rs.80 crore. He said RTI, which is celebrating its golden jubilee year, has 172 Tables across the country and has taken up several community service projects in health, education and disaster management. In his address, Mr.Madavan said the initiative has made him a far more responsible citizen, enabling him to contribute to society. “These small acts knit together for a social cause makes a huge impact in society,” he added. On the project, he said education plays a vital role in facilitating children to compete in the globalisation era.
