CHENNAI: Loco Works, Perambur, a workshop of Southern Railway, overhauled a diesel shunting locomotive belonging to a private sector company. The locomotive was flagged off by V. Carmelus, Chief Mechanical Engineer, Southern Railway, on Wednesday. It is the first time that the workshop undertook the overhauling of a private sector locomotive, which fetched Indian Railways revenue of about Rs.34 lakh. The major items of work involved during overhauling were related to engine, and air brake system. Apart from the regular maintenance works, a major modification was carried out in the locomotive to make it suitable for air brake operation in formation, according to a Southern Railway press release. — Special Correspondent © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
