Cheques handed over

To legal heirs of workers, who died in accident

TIRUCHI: The Chief Inspector of Factories, Chennai, S. Elangovan on Saturday distributed cheques to the tune of Rs. 50,000 each to the legal heirs of the three workers of a private fire works unit in Perambalur district, who were killed in a fire accident that took place in 2006.

The assistance was sanctioned by the Government under the Group Insurance Scheme for the workers of the match and fire works.

Manoharan, Kannan alias Natarajan and Tamilarasan, all workers of Marudu Fire Works, Jamen Thottam village in Kunnam taluk of Perambalur district, were killed in the fire accident on March 1, 2006. Mr. Elangovan handed over the cheques to Gokila, wife of Manoharan; Mayilamman, wife of Kannan alias Natarajan; and Manjula, wife of Tamilarasan at the office of the Joint Chief Inspector of Factories here. The Joint Chief Inspector of Factories, Tiruchi, P. P. Janarthanam, the Deputy Chief Inspectors of Factories, S. Rathinam (Tiruchi) and Arul (Thanjavur) and other officers were present on the occasion.

A press release of the Department issued here said Tamil Nadu was the only state which implemented the Group Insurance Scheme for the workers of match and fire works. The scheme is being implemented by the Factories Inspectorate and the insurance premium was remitted by the employers.
