PM’s assurance to Uttar Pradesh for development

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday assured Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati that the Centre would take all necessary steps to promote the development of the State and the welfare of its people.

At a meeting to discuss issues pertaining to the State’s development, Ms. Mayawati called on Dr. Singh, who referred to the special group he had constituted under the chairmanship of Planning Commission Member B.K. Chaturvedi for preparing a road-map for Uttar Pradesh’s rapid economic development.

Special plan

He also assured Ms. Mayawati that a special plan for the development of the Bundelkhand region would be prepared with the help of the Commission.

Funds allocation

According to an official statement here, Dr. Singh also drew her attention to the financial allocation made to the State under various programmes of the Central government such as the Bharat Nirman, the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, the National Rural Health Mission , Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewable Mission and projects pertaining to roads, railways and the power sector.

Dr. Singh also assured the Chief Minister that Uttar Pradesh’s energy and connectivity needs would be met.
