Y. Mariadas Y. Mariadas, Co-option member, GVMC: “When it comes to issues like encroachments, there should be consensus. When GV Ramana was chairman and NSN Reddy was mayor and even during the tenure of D.V. Subba Rao, municipal council members used to give a free hand to the Mayor and the Commissioner on such issues. The regularisation of geddas taken up is a good opportunity for the corporation to remove encroachments. Before the fresh proposals for Rs.40 crores (for Yerrigedda) materialise, the removal of encroachments should be taken up. There are encroachments in all the geddas. As a first step, the civic staff should survey and mark the encroachments. That will send signals to people that they are living on encroachments that will have to go.” © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
