Staff Reporter

NARASARAOPET: District Collector Mohammad Ali Rafath on Wednesday constituted a committee to rehabilitate traditional woman dancers (record dancers), who have been eking out livelihood by performing dances during the religious festivities. The committee would comprise district officials, representatives of dancers and Gandhi Smaraka Samithi, which has been fighting against obscene dances and work for providing alternate and decent livelihood opportunities for traditional dancers. He announced the decision at the end of a meeting held at the Revenue Divisional Office. Scores of women, teenaged girls and outfits fighting for their rights took part in the meeting. The Collector and Superintendent of Police Mahesh Chandra Laddha, however, said that strict action would be taken against those involved in obscene dances during the Kotappakonda festivities.
