Ramoji Rao, son get bail in land case

VISAKHAPATNAM: Eenadu group chairman Ch. Ramoji Rao and his son Ch. Kiran on Wednesday presented themselves at III Town Police station here and were granted bail in connection with a case relating to land taken on lease for the newspaper office in the city.

On February 10, the Andhra Pradesh High Court, while granting them anticipatory bail, directed them to appear in the police station and seek bail after executing bonds and sureties.

The complaint

Manthena Aditya Eswara Krishna Kumara Varma leased 2.70 acres to Mr. Ramoji Rao in 1974 for 33 years.

Mr. Ramoji Rao started the newspaper office at this site. During 1984-85, the government took over 517 square yards of this land for road expansion and an adjacent site measuring 872 square yards was given as compensation.

Mr. Varma alleged that Mr. Ramoji Rao and Mr. Kiran got this site registered in their names on behalf of Ushodaya publishers.

Case of cheating

He filed a case in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court, which later directed III Town Police here to file a case of cheating.

Cases under Sections 406, 409, 417, 418 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code were booked against Mr. Ramoji Rao and Mr. Kiran.
