Uninterrupted power supply ensured to industries

Special Correspondent

HYDERABVAD: AP Transco has successfully segregated as many as 1,196 industrial feeders from the general feeders, thus ensuring uninterrupted power supply to a large number of industries in the State.

As a result of this measure, power losses on the industrial feeders have tumbled down to below four per cent and that on the feeders meant for ensuring supply to towns to less than 15 per cent.

These details were provided to the Planning Commission during a presentation by Transco chairperson Rachel Chatterjee in Delhi on Thursday.

Power utilities

Planning Commission members are stated to have lauded the efforts made by the power utilities in Andhra Pradesh to cut down the losses to such level and promised cooperation to take the initiatives forward.

Ms Chatterjee told the commission that the State had drawn up plans to reduce the losses to less than 7 per cent in towns and to less than 10 per cent in mandal headquarters by strengthening the supply network.

She said by spending huge amounts on modernising the transmission and distribution system in the State, the Transco could bring down the transmission and distribution losses to 19.82 per cent from a high of 30.2 per cent.

Now, steps had been taken to reduce the losses further to 17.3 per cent in 2008-09.
