Medak constituency to be tought terrain for parties

Staff Reporter

Medak segment after delimitation will cover Medak, Papannapet, Chinna

shankarampet and Ramayampet

SANGAREDDY: The dissolution of Ramayampet Assembly segment and its addition to the erstwhile Medak constituency under delimitation, not only ended the hold of Congress and Telugu Desam parties on the segment but also made it tough for Padma Devender Reddy the present Telangana Rashtra Samithi legislator from Ramayampet. The Medak segment after delimitation would cover Medak, Papannapet, Chinnashankarampet and Ramayampet mandals.

Advantage TDP

The Medak constituency has been dominated by both Congress and Telugu Desam for long. At present it is being represented by P. Sasidhar Reddy the associated member of Congress who won the elections on Janata ticket. Sasidhar Reddy was forced to contest on Janata tag as the Medak seat was allocated to Y.Prabhakar Reddy of TRS. While TRS had to struggle to find hold in the Medak area the TDP had done well in the municipal and local body elections under the leadership of Batti Jagapathi the present Medak municipal chairman. TDP also wields its influence in the newly added Ramayampet and Chinnashankarampet mandals. Batti Jagapathi belongs to Medak area and fulfills the requirement of local candidate. However, the addition of Chinnashankarampet to Medak brings in Medak district TDP president Mainampalli Hanmantha Rao a native of Korivipalli of Chinnashankarampet also into the race for a party nomination.

Tough fight

Even though the Sasidhar Reddy has fulfilled most of the poll time promises it will not be a cakewalk for him this time with former Ramaympet MLA Vithal Reddy throwing the gauntlet for Medak seat immediately after delimitation notification. APCC legal cell co-convener Pratap Reddy an advocate by profession is also in the race. Looking at the changing equations as a result of delimitation Ramayampet MLA Padma Devender Reddy has decided to buy a house in Medak town and also started working in areas like Papannapet the stronghold of TDP.
