Police decision on hoardings

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Police will levy charges on the organisations concerned for removal of hoardings and banners, Commissioner Nanchil G. Kumaran said here on Monday.

The decision follows the removal of over 2,000 such boards belonging to various organisations in the past four days, he added.

A Government Order that permitted organisations to display boards had stipulated that they could be put up three days before the event and must be removed two days after the event.

But it was found that many of the organisers violated the order and created problems to road users.

Display boards, including those of political parties, would not be allowed to be put up on medians and pavements as they posed problems to pedestrians.

As of now, no cases have been registered against violators, and no fines have been levied for such acts, he said.
