Globalisation not a challenge to Malayalam: Vice-Chancellor

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The process of globalisation will not pose a challenge to Malayalam language, M.K. Ramachandran Nair, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kerala, has said.

He was inaugurating a seminar on ‘Globalisation and Malayalam,’ organised by the Department of Linguistics, here on Monday.

Globalisation that began in the 1990s spread very rapidly in the social and economic spheres. This is what is getting reflected in regional languages, including Malayalam. However, this impact will not do the kind of harm that some people think, Mr. Ramachandran said.

Like other languages, Malayalam should imbibe the positive aspect of globalisation and gain strength on the computerisation front.

Syndicate member A.R. Rajan presided over the inaugural ceremony.
