MUMBAI: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex gained on Tuesday by 156 points on brisk buying in construction-related stocks of cement and steel following a reduction in freight rates as announced in the Railway Budget. The Sensex, which rose by 301.50 points in last trading session, added another 155.62 points on Tuesday at 17806.19. A major push to the market came in from stocks of capital goods which rose 324.09 points to 16124.36, followed by metal index by 270.85 points to 16108.01. Shares of Reliance Energy moved up nearly five per cent after the company said it will consider buy-back next month, even as shares of Reliance Power again slipped below the Rs. 450-level. — PTI © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
