Letters to the Editor
By unanimously condemning all forms of terrorism, the anti-terrorism convention of various Muslim organisations at Darul Uloom, Deoband, Uttar Pradesh, has done a great service to the nation. The UPA government must take care not to play into the hands of communal and fascist forces that consider Muslims responsible for all acts of terrorism even before the investigations are complete. The convention has rightly questioned the secular and democratic credentials of a nation that targets the biggest minority community. Mohd. Abdul Sattar, Hyderabad The Darul Uloom of Deoband deserves the gratitude of all peace-loving people for condemning terrorism, which is against the tenets of Islam. Terrorists are not jihadis. Jihad has a positive and humanistic connotation. Hindus and Muslims should together launch jihad against terrorism. Mumtaz Ali Khan, Bangalore The anti-terrorism convention deserves praise for condemning terrorism of all forms and emphasising the values of peace and unity. Killing the innocent by acts of terrorism is condemnable. Fundamentalism is posing a great threat to the integrity and sovereignty of the nation. The resolution passed by the convention will strengthen the people’s resolve against terrorism at both the national and international level. Mahesh D. Patil, New Delhi Terrorism is against the teachings of Islam. I appreciate the ulemas’ advice to the Muslim community to remain patient and lodge peaceful protests whenever the need arises. Tawheed Akhtar, Hyderabad The Muslim clergy has stated categorically that terrorism and Islam are poles apart. But its attitude of finding fault with the bureaucracy and the police shows that it has not yet realised the importance of weaning away the brainwashed youth from the clutches of vested interests. A powerful message from the ulemas that jihadis will not enter paradise will have a great impact. M. Nyamathullah, Tiruchi © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
