Dubai: The 38 Indian workers, sentenced to six months in jail for “endangering public security and damaging properties” during a strike in October, are unlikely to appeal as they will complete the sentence in March. Indian consulate officials met the workers on Tuesday, but the workers were reluctant to appeal. After their release they will be deported to India. Jassem Baqer, head of Dubai Criminal Court, said: “I believe this is the first ruling of its kind and which sends a strong message to workers who resort to illegal methods to get their rights from their employers.” — PTI © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
