Welcomes the stance of the CBCI chairman Says violence in Kannur is a UDF-RSS plot KASARAGOD: The opinion expressed by Muslim Education Society chairman Fazal Gafoor on the stance of Nair Service Society leaders on the Paloli committee report is right, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has said. He was inaugurating a public meeting organised by the CPI(M) at Palakkunnu in the district on Wednesday. ‘Disparaging remarks’Mr. Vijayan said the NSS leaders had made disparaging remarks on the Paloli committee report, which had been prepared after a careful study of the Sachar panel report. The opinion of Mr. Gafoor should be considered a natural reaction, he said. Mr. Vijayan said the CPI(M) welcomed the stance of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India chairman Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil on the differences of opinion between the government and the Church on various issues. The opinion of the Cardinal that the differences should be resolved through discussions was right, Mr. Vijayan said. That opinion was applicable to all in the State, he said. The CPI (M) does not want to enter into a controversy with any Church in Kerala, he said. Mr. Vijayan said the recent violence in Kannur and Palakkad was the result of an United Democratic Front (UDF)-Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh conspiracy. Those who believe in secularism could not continue in the UDF any more, he said. K. Kunhiraman, MLA, presided over. K.V. Kunhiraman, MLA, and CPI(M) district secretary A.K. Narayanan spoke. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
