GURGAON: Dempo Sports Club strove to hold on to the ball and the one time it chose to release proved a strike worth Rs. 10 lakh. The lone goal, slotted in by Edeh Chidi, helped the Goan outfit leave East Bengal, Kolkata a graceful loser in the ONGC Super Cup encounter at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex here on Wednesday. Dempo, winner of the I-League, was not at its best. East Bengal dominated, came close to scoring once each through Marques Edmilson. But it was Dempo which made the most of the opportunity that came its way in the 71st minute. A drive by Roberto ‘Beto’ Silva slipped out of goalkeeper Subrata Paul’s grasp and Chidi slotted the ball home. — Special Correspondent © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
