Train to Dhaka likely from April

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: A passenger train service between Kolkata and Dhaka is likely to begin from “Poila Boishak,” the Bengali New Year’s Day, Chief of the Bangladesh Army Staff, General Moeen U. Ahmed, reportedly said while on a visit to the border station of Gede in West Bengal’s Nadia district on Friday.

The Bengali New Year’s Day falls on April 14.

Later General Ahmed called on Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee here.

General Ahmed visited Gede to inspect the infrastructure that had been set up for operationalising the service and to check matters related to security.

He reportedly expressed his government’s keenness to commence the service as early as possible, a senior Eastern Railway official said.
