Consumers prefer to play waiting game

Mohd. Azhar Shareef had almost bought a bike on Friday. But when he overheard the news that taxes were slashed on small cars and mobikes in the new budget, he took an instant decision. He could buy Hero Honda Passion after April, when the slashed prices come into effect.

Vinay Saboo of Saboo Motors said automobile industry got a good boost. With the 4 p.c. reduction, car prices (below 1200 cc) could drop from Rs.7,000 to Rs.15,000. A. Bashapathi of Lakshmi Motors expects a drop of Rs. 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per bike. “More motorcycles will be sold now,” he opined.
