Bad roads rock House

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The issue of bad condition of roads in the State rocked the Assembly on Friday culminating in a walkout by members of the Telugu Desam, CPI(M), CPI and BJP.

When the subject figured through a question tabled by Chada Venkata Reddy (CPI) and others, Roads & Buildings Minister T. Jeevan Reddy replied that roads in the State, indeed, were in good condition and that sufficient money was being spent for their maintenance.

Allocation of funds for roads, he said, ranked next only to irrigation. The Minister’s stand, however, attracted the Opposition’s wrath. T. Devender Goud (Telugu Desam), N. Narsimhaiah CPI(M) and G. Kishen Reddy (BJP) joined Mr. Venkata Reddy in criticising the Government for virtually giving a holiday to maintenance of roads.
