NEW DELHI: Alexander Staschko (Germany) defeated Alexey Kedryuk (Kazakhstan) 6-4, 6-4 in the final of the $15,000 ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament here on Saturday. Staschko, who won the Kolkata leg last week, was hardly pushed by Kedryuk. The final was played in the afternoon to suit the broadcasters. Due to this, heat played a crucial factor which slowed down the opponents. The German struggled with his serve but the Kazakh failed to capitalise on it. Kedryuk made a lot of unforced errors with Staschko breaking him in the fourth game of the first set. The German made no mistake on his serve and took the first set at 6-4. In the second set, the German broke in the fifth game but Kedryuk rallied brilliantly only to surrender two games later. Staschko played the waiting game better and emerged an easy winner. — Principal Correspondent © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
