It’s going to be a big match: Whatmore

Mumbai: Unbeaten in the ICC under-19 World Cup so far, the Virat Kohli-led Indian team is all ready to lock horns with South Africa in the title match on Sunday at the Kinrara Academy Oval, Kuala Lumpur. Coach Dav Whatmore, Director (Operations), NCA, is clearly delighted at the performance of the Indian team.

Talking to The Hindu from Kuala Lumpur, Whatmore said: “It’s going to be a big match, but it’s after all a cricket match, is it not? I see plenty of talent in this lot. They should enjoy the match, forgetting the seriousness of the final. I have enjoyed working with this group.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has also sent National selector Rakesh Parekh to Kuala Lumpur. Explaining the reasons for the Indian team’s undefeated run, Parekh said: “The BCCI gave all opportunities to the boys and prepared them for the under-19 World Cup. The team played in Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Malaysia and South Africa and the players have now got accustomed to the pitch conditions, weather and have been able to improve their skills.” — Special Correspondent
