Cavalry Black triumphs

NEW DELHI: Santiago De Estrada smashed seven goals but his effort proved futile as Cavalry Black defeated Cavalry Red 9-1/2-9 in the final of the DSC Northern India 12-goal polo championship at the Jaipur Polo ground here on Sunday.

Simran Shergill and Sameer Chaudhary were the other scorers for Cavalry Red.

Tarun Sirohi (4), Navjit Sandhu (2), Hamza Ali (2) and Ravi Rathore found the target for the champion team that had started with a crucial 1/2-goal handicap advantage.

After a day’s rest, the SMS Gold Vase eight-goal tournament will start on Tuesday.
