Excise constable suspended

GUNTUR: An excise constable at Vinukonda, Chavali Nagamalleswara Rao was suspended on Tuesday after he had reportedly assaulted Excise Sub Inspector of Police N. Tirupathi Rao on the excise station premises. The constable was later taken into custody.

The constable was asked to escort some of the accused persons in the court, when he reportedly objected by saying that he has been on duty continuously since Monday. After a heated exchange, the constable reportedly hit the S.I. Narasaraopet Excise Superintendent Anand Kumar said that Mr. Rao has been suspended and an enquiry has been ordered into the incident.

Betting racket busted

Macherla police busted a betting racket and arrested 19 persons at Durgi village on Tuesday. On the basis of information, the police raided an Iron shop at Durgi village and recovered Rs.40,000, 11 cell phones and a colour TV. The police said the accused were involved in betting on the result of India-Australia Tri-series finals played on Tuesday.
