Chennai: St. Joseph’s College of Engineering made a sweep of the winner and runner up trophies in the inter-collegiate tournament conducted by Sivaganga District Badminton Association between February 29 and March 2. Vijay Anand and Aloysius Vijay, representing the ‘A’ team won against Subikshan and Aditya Elango who constituted the ‘B’ team in the final. The score read 21-18, 21-19. The winning pair received a cash award of Rs. 5,000, while the runner up was richer by Rs. 3,000. Earlier, St. Joseph’s ‘A’ beat St. Michael’s College, Kalayarkoil 21-5, 21-7 while the ‘B’ team accounted for AC Tech, Karaikusi 21-3, 21-5. Galle BBA — consisting of young players from almost all parts of Sri Lanka — has already played two matches — against Loyola and St. Joseph’s Engineering College. On March 6 (Thursday), it will play SDAT Excellence team (at the Nehru Stadium) and then on Friday, the Tamil Nadu junior team (at JJ Indoor Stadium, Kilpauk). The Sri Lankan Galle BBA team is expected to leave Chennai to Colombo on March 9.
