South Asian meet from today

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: India will field its junior archers in the second South Asian championship beginning at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Friday. The three-day championship will see competition in three divisions: Indian round, compound and recurve bow sections.

Top archers from Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka will take part in the meet which was first held at Dhaka.

India will be fielding two teams of juniors — India ‘A’ and ‘B’ – keeping in mind the junior World championship in October, the junior Asian championship in 2009 and the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

Impressive show

Some of the juniors have already made it to the senior ranks with considerable success. V. Pranitha and Nisha Rani Dutta (women), Adonda Raju, Rajib Basumatary (men) in the recurve division, Namita Yadav (women) and Renso Purty and Sanjay Swansi (men) in the compound bow section are some of the notable ones.

A 48-member contingent has been named to represent India in the championship.
