‘Bonus’ proposed for A.P. farmers

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has proposed yet another scheme for farmers — this time to allow a 10 per cent “bonus” payment in addition to the actual price payable to farmers on sale of their foodgrains production to registered buyers.

This is aimed at helping the tenants who are kept out of almost all the schemes so far, and the farmers left out by the Central debt waiver.

Considering various problems faced by the farming community at a meeting here on Friday, Dr. Reddy proposed setting up of a regulatory authority to decide the bonus percentage annually, and earmarking of a sum of Rs 4,000 crore for the purpose.
