Outsiders accused of hatching conspiracy to weaken party

Former Minister charged with speaking out of turn

HYDERABAD: Senior Telugu Desam leader Kadiam Srihari’s pro-Telangana remarks continued to evoke a sharp reaction from seniors within the party. On Friday, two of his senior colleagues, N. Janardhan Reddy and P. Chandrasekhar, not only castigated him but advised him not to impose his constituency-specific views on the party cadre in the entire region.

“He might have spoken out of local compulsions but he should not generalise and say the same about other areas in the region. For instance in Mahabubnagar, the party is strong and we are confident of winning most of the seats in the next Assembly elections. The situation is same in most parts of Telangana and the cadre is working hard to see N. Chandrababu Naidu as the next Chief Minister,” Mr. Janardhan Reddy and Mr. Chandrasekhar, both hailing from Mahabubnagar, said.

“Such remarks will unnecessarily cause confusion in the ranks,” Mr. Chandrasekhar said and went on to allege that somebody outside the party was hatching a conspiracy to weaken the party in the region by whipping up a fear psychosis. The party was solidly behind Mr. Naidu and had full faith in his “appropriate decision at appropriate time” line.

Mr. Janardhan Reddy found fault with Mr. Srihari for speaking out of turn on a sensitive issue, forgetting the 25-year-old history of the party in which it ruled for 17 years. He should have waited till the party had made its stand clear. To a question, he said though the Telangana issue had not come up in the Polit Bureau, it was under discussion in an informal way. Mr. Chandrasekhar recalled how the party had performed well in local body elections in Telangana and successfully organised “BC Garjana” in Warangal.
