BHUBANESWAR: Youth should be given adequate representation in politics, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi said on Saturday, second day of his “Discovery of India” journey in Orissa. At a meeting at Gunupur in Rayagada district to pay tributes to his father and former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, Mr. Gandhi lamented that no party, including the Congress, had ensured sufficient share for youth in its ranks. He said he would strive to involve more youth in the party organisation. It was in Gunupur that Rajiv Gandhi addressed his last public meeting, a day before his assassination at Sriperumbudur. Observing that the voice of the youth had faded away with the death of his father 17 years ago, Mr. Gandhi said frontal organisations of the Congress would welcome youth to work with them in the coming days. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
