HYDERABAD: To spread awareness among people about scientific aspects and scientific principles behind the day-to-day happenings, the Department of Botany, Osmania University is organising a conference on ‘Science Popularisation’ at the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) on March 12 and 13. Prof. B.N. Reddy, organising secretary, said that prominent people from the scientific field, from both India and abroad, will participate. Former UGC chief Prof. Yashpal will inaugurate the seminar that would include lectures by popular science commentator from Australia Dr. Karl; Global Theme Leader of ICRISAT, David Hoisington and UNESCO Kalinga awardee for science popularisation N.K. Sehgal. Leading figures of science from India like Prof. M.V. Rao, Prof. M.P. Parameswaran, Dr. Mahtab S. Bamji, Dr. D. Balasubramanian, Dr. Lalji Singh, Dr. J.S. Yadav and Dr. M. Bhargava will also share their expertise. Prof. Reddy said that scientific awareness among people helps demystify myths and tackle superstitions and science communication also helps in promotion of development.
