Laxman triumphs

Chennai: International Master R.R. Laxman of Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, won a strong two-day Rapid Chess Tournament, organised by the Anna Nagar Chess Academy, at the Hall of Chess in the Nehru Stadium here on Sunday.

Undefeated Laxman, 25, scored eight points from nine games and picked up Rs.4,000 in this 214-player field. He defeated fellow International Master Thandalam Ravi of Indian Oil in the final round.

Ram is second

Ram S. Krishnan of BSNL took the second place on the same eight points after defeating International Master D.P. Singh of Southern Railway.

Wins on tie-break

Laxman pipped Ram on tie-break after both players tied for the first place.

Final placings (tie-break order): 1-2 R.R. Laxman (ICF), Ram S. Krishnan (BSNL) 8/9 each, 3 C. Praveen Kumar 7.5, 4-6 M. Vinoth Kumar, C. Natarajan (ICF), T.S. Ravi (PSPB) 7 each.
