Efforts to eradicate bogus ration cards

Staff Reporter

Krishnagiri: The district administration has taken up a hundred per cent verification of ration cards in Krishnagiri district to weed out bogus ration cards. Specially trained officers have been deputed at block and taluk levels to check bogus cards. These officials would conduct a door-to-door verification and take action on the basis of the condition of the cards, Collector Santhosh Babu has said.

Printing of new ration cards has commenced at the District Collectorate here. The new cards would be issued within 60 days after computerisation of details at the taluk level. It was brought to the notice of the administration that a few cardholders were selling the PDS goods in black market. Selling the PDS goods in the market or buying them from cardholders was a serious offence, the Collector said. The district administration has established a control room in the office of the Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies to prevent the smuggling of essential commodities under the PDS and monitor the functioning of fair price shops in the district, Mr. Babu added.
