‘Krishna lowered dignity of post’

BANGALORE: S.M. Krishna, who quit as Maharashtra Governor recently, has lowered the dignity of the post, alleged the former minister H.N. Nanje Gowda and the former MLA Vatal Nagaraj.

In a press statement here on Wednesday, they alleged that Mr. Krishna tendered resignation to the Governor’s post to seek re-entry into active politics. The former Chief Minister has “eroded the constitutional sanctity of the post of the Governor and the Congress has not bothered to protect the constitutional sanctity of the post,” they alleged.

The Congress, led by Mr. Krishna in the 2004 State legislative Assembly election, emerged as a second largest party in the Assembly.

The BJP emerged as the largest single party with 79 seats. Despite Mr. Krishna’s disastrous record in 2004 elections, a section of the party has now considered him as an “electoral mascot” to bring the party back to power.

Referring to the Cauvery water dispute, they alleged that the former Chief Minister had not only released water to Tamil Nadu but also tendered an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court to save his chair.
