Rs. 10 lakh allocated from Corporation general fund, says Commissioner

TIRUPUR: The two roads and bylanes, known as Binny Compound, a commercial hub in the heart of the city, has been yearning for good roads, streetlights and water supply.

The Binny Compound, which houses many banks, a number of retail showrooms and dozens of other shops and eateries, is situated opposite the Taluk Office. Though the commercial hub has much in store for fashion and retail, roads leading to it is in a shabby condition.

“Virtually there is no black-top on these two roads on which thousands of vehicles ply every day. The local body has been neglecting this area despite collecting all the taxes from us,” complained a shop owner.

Some years ago, a private shop had laid a road to facilitate hassle-free entry for its customers. But that too was damaged severely in the last couple of years.

Potholes

The Tirupur Corporation has done nothing to these roads, remarked another businessman. The entry to the Sabari Road and its parallel road from both the Silver Jubilee Park Side and Kumaran Road threatens motorists with potholes and rocks.

Councillor Samundeeswari said that the commercial area required streetlights and water supply. The area, till recently labelled as an unapproved one, was deprived of any development by the local body.

When contacted, Corporation Commissioner M. Ashokan said that tenders would be called soon for laying road in Binny Compound. He said Rs. 10 lakh had been allocated from the general fund of the Corporation.
