LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Wednesday revoked the ban on the recruitment of general category candidates in State government services. The ban was imposed by the Samajwadi Party government. Announcing this at a press conference, Ms. Mayawati said Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Mishra would be assisted by Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar in expediting the recruitment process. Officials had been directed to ensure that the benefits of consequential seniority accrued to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes employees. The 3rd amendment to the Uttar Pradesh Government Service Seniority Rules had been upheld by the Supreme Court. Ms. Mayawati accused the previous regime of depriving the SC/ST employees of the benefits of consequential seniority. Following her decision promotional avenues would be created for them, she said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
