Two rookie spinners in Windies squad

Bridgetown: Rookie spin bowlers Amit Jaggernauth and Sulieman Benn were named in the 15-man West Indies squad for the opening Test against Sri Lanka in Guyana starting on March 22.

Offspinner Jaggernauth, a standout for Trinidad and Tobago over the last three regional first-class seasons, and Barbados left-arm spinner Benn have were called up on Tuesday for international duty for the first time. The 24-year-old Jaggernauth helped bowl Trinidad and Tobago to victory over the Windward Islands on Monday with figures of 12 for 133 in their Carib Beer Cup match. The haul took his 2008 season total to 23 at an average of 16.26. Benn, 6-foot-7 (2.01 meters) tall, has 22 wickets at 21.31 in five Carib Beer Cup matches this year and was impressive during the Stanford Twenty20 tournament in February. Chris Gayle captains the team for the first time in a home Test after first taking charge on the winter tour of South Africa last December.
