HC permits students to write PU exam

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Friday came to the rescue of five Pre-University (PU) students and, in an interim order, permitted them to appear for the final PU examination scheduled to commence from Monday.

The board and the institution in which the students were studying had said they are ineligible to take the examination as they do not have the required attendance.

Four students of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College, Udupi — Afaque Khan, Akash Pai, Akash Rao and Vineet Rodrigues — and Vidya, a student of Baldwin Girls Junior College, Bangalore, had challenged the refusal by the authorities to issue hall tickets and permit them to appear for the examination.

In an interim order, Justice Ashok B. Hinchigeri allowed the students to appear for the examination. He said the results of the students shall not be announced till the disposal of the petition. Each of the student was asked to pay administrative charge of Rs. 2,000 to the institution.

The court adjourned further hearing on the case to April 1.
