PU exam begins today

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: As many as 5.73 lakh students from across the State will appear for the pre-university examination commencing from Monday.

Speaking to The Hindu, S.G. Hegde, Commissioner, Pre-University Education, said the examination would be conducted at 774 examination centres in the State, of which 75 had been identified as sensitive and 18 as hyper-sensitive. “The examination will be videographed in the sensitive and hyper-sensitive centres. We have contacted the deputy commissioners and superintendents of police of districts with sensitive and hyper-sensitive centres to provide more security.

“The centres will be cordoned off and only examination officials and students will be allowed inside them,” he said.

Further, to bring down cases of malpractice, the department had formed 133 mobile vigilance squads and 2,000 special vigilance squads. Prohibitory orders would be in force around the centres when the examination would be on, he added.

“This year, we will give students 15 minutes to read and understand questions before they start answering them. This is to help ease their nerves.”
