They were involved in robbery case Case to come up on March 25 CHENNAI: The Madhavaram police arrested three persons who had been absconding for over 26 years in connection with a robbery case. The police said eight persons had stopped a lorry at 4.30 a.m. near the Madhavaram roundabout on September 30, 1980, and had taken away Rs. 657 and a watch from the driver, brandishing a knife. The police nabbed five of them and produced them before the magistrate at Tiruvottriyur. The case was being tried in the Chengulpet sessions court. The police filed a first information report on Pattu alias Munuswamy of Korrukkupet, Ganesan and Puliraj of Vyasarpadi as absconding. The five arrested initially attended the hearing, but did not appear for subsequent hearings. The court kept issuing summons till 1982. Recently, the sessions court made a list of cases pending for over 10 years. On request from the Madhavaram police, the details of this case were forwarded to the Director-General of Police and the Commissioner of Police. Inquiries revealed that three of the accused continued to live in the addresses listed in the case file. On Friday, the police arrested George (48) and Dilli (58) of Korukkupet and Asokan (49) of Vyasarpadi, but Balan and Sekar are absconding.
