All over the world, international airports are built to meet the needs of international flights . But they are not built to close down the existing, functional airports. As to the GMR’s views on financial viability of running two airports, the company would be well advised to run its international airport and be done. But where does it get the authority to manipulate the whole civil aviation in the area. The middle-class passenger from Vizag, Vijayawada, Tirupati or Pune does not get enamoured with finding his way home in a GPS-enabled DOT taxi! Capt. K.G.Rao, Punjagutta CGHS: needless tussleThe news item ‘CGHS beneficiaries caught in the crossfire’ (The Hindu dated 07/03) is timely advice to the government. The needless tussle between the government and the hospitals is uncalled for. The only saving grace is waiver of consulting fee. However, this too calls for another bureaucratic process. This is life-threatening for a heart patient like me. BRC Iyengar, Ishaq Colony Suicide no solution It is a matter of concern that students pursuing higher studies in universities are committing suicides. Whatever be the problem, suicide is not a solution. The authorities and students unions should arrange for counselling every month at the institution’s campus. This will go a long way in extending moral support and mental strength to students. A.P. Venkateswarulu, UoH. Gachibowli © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
