Hike in basic salary ceiling

The Cabinet decided to enhance the basic salary ceiling for levy of professional tax from Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 5,000 a month. It resolved to accordingly amend the legislation governing professional tax which is collected from the employees for augmenting the resources of local bodies. This decision is expected to benefit more than 10 lakh employees working in different sectors.
