Exploitation of children

Exploitation of children is nothing new. Last week, a few children, below the age of 10, came to my residence with a form and said they were students of a school and requested me to donate.

One of them said it was meant for leprosy patients; another said it was meant for tuberculosis patients. In fact, none was aware of what they were doing. Indeed, the fundraising continued for another couple of days.

To find out what was going on, I straightaway went to the school.

The Headmaster said a voluntary organisation approached him and sought help for a “noble” cause by raising funds through the students of his institution.

I came to know from the parents that the children were motivated by way of gifts on collection of Rs.100 and above.

I therefore request the authorities concerned to look into the matter and see innocent children are not exploited.

The post office date seal impression on a letter is not merely cancelling the postage stamps.

It gives two essential information: the place and date of posting, and the place and date of delivery. It constitutes an evidential proof.

But there have been instances of bad postmarks where the details expected of it are illegibly stamped.

In some cases the postal article is not date-stamped at the delivery point.

This deprives a postal user of the vital information about the posting and delivery of the mail.

Authorities must set it right .

The junction on Tiruchendur-Tirunelveli national highways at Tiruchendur is accident-prone.

The junction is abuzz with traffic.

Buses for Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Nagercoil and other vehicles are zipping through the junction.

The junction does not have proper traffic lights.

I request the authorities to establish traffic lights.

Though Anna University has given clear guidelines as to how to award internal marks to engineering students, more often it is flouted with the result instead of helping the students it discourages the enterprising students and making them at the beck and call of teachers.

A few colleges interested in the improvement of colleges award 20 marks out of 20 marks or 19 marks at least as the case may be thereby inflating the total marks as a mark is a deciding factor in making or breaking the future of students.

Some colleges take vengeance on the students and give low marks out of 20 regardless of whether it lessens the pass percentage of the college or not.

It is suggested that students should be awarded marks based on examination only and giving marks at the whims and fancies of the teachers stopped in the interest of students.
