BANGALORE: Former Chief National coach, U. Vimal Kumar, who trains Anand Pawar at the Tata Padukone Badminton Academy here, was pleased with his ward’s performance on the European Tour. “Two major titles is indeed a worthwhile achievement. He is progressing on the right lines,” said Vimal after Pawar’s triumph at the Portuguese Open on Sunday. “This would give him a lot of confidence and his ranking will also improve. What Pawar needs to do now is to break into the Super Series and play well at the higher level,” said Vimal. The coach attributed Pawar’s recent stint of training in Denmark under Morten Frost as another major factor for his success. He stressed on the need for Indian juniors to compete in international events rather than staying back and training at home. “It is the exposure that really matters,” said Vimal. — Special Correspondent © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
