Girl knocked down, truck set ablaze

VILLUPURAM: A brick-laden lorry fatally knocked down a schoolgirl on the Sadaiyandikuppam-Thennal road near Kandamangalam on Monday.

S. Nandini (14), studying in VIII standard, was cycling her way to the school at Ariyur. The police said driver S. Ebenezer abandoned the vehicle and fled.

He was later arrested on the charge of rash driving.

Nandini’s relatives blocked traffic for an hour. Later, some of them broke open the lorry’s diesel tank and sprayed the fuel on the vehicle before setting it ablaze.
